Happy 10th birthday Sun ☀️

Ten years ago, on the first day of summer, you arrived.
The Summer Solstice ☀️ the longest day of the year, the day of greatest light 🌅 and somehow, that was the day chosen for your entrance into the world.
I don’t believe that was an accident.
When I was pregnant with you, one of the thoughts that consumed me most wasn’t what you would look like or who you would become. It was something much simpler: I couldn’t wait to talk to you.
I remember sitting with my growing belly and being amazed that one day there would be a little person here, someone with thoughts and questions and ideas of his own. Someone I would laugh with, learn from, and spend hours talking to.
And now here we are, a decade later.
My baby boy has now become my little preteen.
And I remain completely in awe of you.
One of the great mysteries of being human is that we are capable of carrying both grief and joy in the same heart. Life teaches us this over and over again. There are seasons of loss, disappointment, uncertainty, and heartache. Seasons where the world feels heavier than it should. Seasons where the light seems distant.
And then, sometimes, a person arrives who changes the atmosphere of your life.
Not because they erase the darkness.
Not because they solve every problem.
But because their presence becomes a light of its own.
That is who you have been for me.
You did not remove every hardship I would face, nor were you ever meant to. But your life brought a kind of illumination into mine that is difficult to put into words.
You reminded me that wonder still existed.
That laughter could still surprise me.
That hope could still grow.
That love could still expand beyond anything I thought my heart was capable of holding.
You became a source of warmth during cold seasons, a source of perspective during difficult ones, and a daily reminder that God is still creating beautiful things in the middle of an imperfect world.
That is why your birthday feels so fitting.
You arrived on the day of greatest light.
Not because you were meant to become the center of the universe, but because from the very beginning, your life has carried the unmistakable quality of illumination.
You have always been a light-bearer.
And while I cannot claim responsibility for the timing of your birth, I treasure the symbolism of it.
I could never have orchestrated that.
Bearing life into this world is one of God’s greatest miracles. The fact that you arrived on the Summer Solstice feels less like coincidence and more like a declaration.
A reminder of who you are.
A reminder of what you carry.
A reminder of the light that was placed within you long before I ever held you in my arms.
You are a child of the Light.
And children of the Light carry purpose.
Not because they are perfect.
Not because they are famous.
Not because they possess wealth or power.
But because they illuminate wherever they go.
One of the philosophers I studied, Seneca, asked a simple question:
“What is a small fire to the sun?”
The answer, of course, is nothing.
A candle needs fuel.
A campfire needs wood.
A flame needs oxygen.
But the sun simply is.
It does not ask permission to shine.
It does not compete with lesser lights.
It does not seek validation.
It simply fulfills its nature.
And that is one of the greatest lessons I hope you carry throughout your life.
You do not need anyone’s permission to become who God created you to be.
You do not need applause to know your worth.
You do not need popularity to possess value.
You do not need the approval of the world to walk confidently in your purpose.
Like the sun, your value comes from your very being.
Your existence alone is enough.
You need nothing external to become yourself.
Nothing added.
Nothing borrowed.
Nothing performed.
The sun does not become the sun because someone recognizes it. It does not shine because it is given oxygen. It shines because shining is its nature.
And in so many ways, that reminds me of you.
The light you carry is not something you have to earn.
It is something you already are.
The sun converts hundreds of millions of tons of hydrogen into energy every second. Every fire on Earth combined would be insignificant compared to its power.
And while no analogy could ever fully capture the mystery of a human soul, it reminds me of something I see in you:
The scale of who you are.
The depth of your heart.
The brightness of your spirit.
The magnitude of the gifts you carry.
You are intelligent, yes.
But what amazes me even more is your wisdom.
You are compassionate.
You are thoughtful.
You are emotionally aware in ways that continually surprise me.
You are kind without being weak.
Strong without being harsh.
Funny without trying.
In fact, your humor regularly outdoes mine, which I am still deciding whether to be proud of or offended by.
You teach me lessons I never expected to learn from a ten-year-old.
You challenge me.
You humble me.
You inspire me.
There are moments when I catch myself listening to you speak and forget that I am talking to a child. Not because you try to sound older than you are, but because there is a depth in you that cannot be measured by age alone.
Wisdom is different from intelligence.
Intelligence gathers information.
Wisdom understands people.
Wisdom understands timing.
Wisdom understands compassion.
And somehow, even at ten years old, you possess pieces of that wisdom already.
I know there is still so much life ahead of you.
So much learning.
So much growing.
But I hope you never lose that softness that allows you to care deeply, nor the curiosity that makes you ask thoughtful questions, nor the courage that allows you to be fully yourself.
Every day, I become more grateful that God entrusted me with the privilege of being your mother.
Motherhood has not merely been a role.
It has been a holy experience.
I do not believe I was given ownership of your life.
I believe I was given stewardship of a soul.
A soul with its own journey.
Its own calling.
Its own purpose.
Its own destiny.
I am simply blessed enough to witness it.
As you enter your tenth year, these are my wishes for you:
May you understand that one lifetime can hold many lives within it.
Learn as much as you can.
Explore as widely as you can.
Remain curious.
Remain teachable.
Remain humble.
Be strong in your body.
Sharp in your mind.
Steady in your craft.
And tender in your heart.
Spend time in solitude.
Not because the world is bad, but because true self-knowledge is often found in quiet places where no one else’s voice can drown out your own.
Learn who you are when no one is watching.
Learn what your soul sounds like beneath the noise.
Forgive often.
Not everything is meant to be understood.
Some things are only meant to be released.
Seek virtue over possessions.
Character over popularity.
Wisdom over attention.
As Seneca taught, happiness is not found in collecting things that fade. It is found in cultivating the parts of ourselves that endure.
A good heart.
A disciplined mind.
A courageous spirit.
A life lived honorably.
When someone asks what kind of man you are one day, let your life answer better than your words ever could.
As for my love for you, language often fails me.
I love you beyond reason.
Beyond logic.
Beyond space and time.
I love you with the fierce ache of a mother’s heart—the kind of love that wishes it could shield her child from every cruelty, every disappointment, every injustice this world may offer.
And yet, real love also understands something deeper.
Your soul has its own sacred journey.
Its own mountains to climb.
Its own lessons to learn.
Its own purpose to fulfill.
I cannot walk that path for you.
And I would never rob you of the divine experience of becoming who you were created to be.
I can only walk beside you for a little while.
Cheer for you.
Guide you.
Pray for you.
Protect you when I can.
And trust God with the rest.
Being your mother has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
Not because I created you.
But because I have been allowed to witness you.
To watch the unfolding of your soul.
To observe the unique way God designed you.
To learn from you as much as you have learned from me.
Happy Birthday, my beautiful boy.
Happy first day of summer.
Happy first decade around the sun.
May your light never dim.
May your wisdom deepen.
May your heart remain tender.
May your laughter stay loud.
May your courage stay strong.
And may you always remember who you are.
The Son has arrived.

A letter to my Lineage
April 3, 2026 | Good Friday

Lately, I have been seeing the number 888 everywhere.
On phone numbers.
On addresses.
In passing moments that feel too intentional to ignore.
And each time, I feel drawn not just to the number itself, but to what it represents to me…continuation, lineage, legacy. A reminder that life does not begin with us, and it does not end with us. We are part of something that stretches both backward and forward through time.
This morning, after seeing it again, I was led to reflect more deeply on what it means to leave something behind.
Not just memories.
Not just photographs.
I do not write simply to express myself in the present. I write as if these words will one day be excavated and studied by my descendants, the way I crave the wisdom of those who came before me.
So I wrote as if my thoughts could become an archive for my bloodline.
A record of what I learned.
What I valued.
What I understood about life while I was here.
My unique purview on an array of topics.
Scripture says:
“Ask the former generations and find out what their ancestors learned.” — Job 8:8
So this is my offering to the generations that may come after me.
If you are reading this one day and we carry shared blood, these are the things I wish to share with you.
I must begin brashly. Do not expect life to be fair. History has shown us that it often is not.
When you look closely at the society around you, you may notice that those who hold the most “power” are sometimes the most financially wealthy while simultaneously being the most morally bankrupt. You may see some of the most beautiful people carry the most hideous traits. The most popular influencers are often the people you wouldn’t want in your circle, or even in your presence, yet somehow they’re shaping the minds of millions. And the most followed are often the least worth following. I want you to recognize the contrast between what looks valuable and what actually is.
I must elaborate here on what I mean by this because I want it to be understood. Philosopher what does it mean to have a happy life I would go even further by saying what do you attach your value to that gives you the self-confidence to live out a happy life. Philosophy says external factors, only have a very slight influence on your happiness and value of life, but they say what absurdity lies and not being content with the daylight, unless it is increased by a tiny fire.
What importance can a spark have in the midst of clear sunlight.
I say this all the time, but I’m gonna say it again here. CRITICAL THINKING is important.
You may also discover that success in this world is not always the result of merit.
Sometimes it is the result of luck, privilege, proximity to power, inherited wealth, family connections, timing, strategic alliances, social currency, reputation, access to opportunity, or systemic advantages that others simply do not have.
Recognizing this reality is not meant to make you bitter. It is meant to make you wise. If you believe the world will always reward the most virtuous or the most talented, you may become disillusioned. Instead, learn to observe the systems around you while still choosing to live with integrity.
Your character should not depend on the fairness of the world. It should depend on the values you choose to uphold regardless of the outcome.
Let your pursuit be excellence and integrity, not simply victory within a flawed system. Let your souls destination be in your purview.
Be mindful, criticism and praise are two sides of the same distraction.
If you allow negativity to define you, you’ll shrink.
If you allow validation to drive you, you’ll perform.
Neither is freedom.
Use discernment, not dependence.
Let feedback inform you, not form you. Move from within.
Discipline is far more powerful than motivation.
Motivation comes and goes depending on your emotions, your circumstances, and how inspired you feel in a moment. Discipline, however, creates consistency. You are not defined by what you do occasionally, you are defined by what you do repeatedly.
Choose a discipline in life and commit yourself to it. Train your mind and your body until your actions are no longer dependent on your mood, but on what you have conditioned yourself to do.
This is especially true when it comes to your health.
Take care of your body with intention. Move it, nourish it, strengthen it. Eat in a way that fuels your life rather than simply satisfying temporary pleasure. When your body is well, everything else in your life has a stronger foundation to grow from.
As you pursue excellence, never lose your individuality.
Imagine ten people in a room all drinking from identical water bottles. When they set them down and walk away, how will anyone know which one belongs to them when they return?
The one that is marked.
Leave your mark. Develop your own signature. Your uniqueness is how the people who are meant for you will recognize you.
Always be yourself.
Guard your heart and your mind, because your actions grow from both.
Scripture teaches that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. What lives in your heart and what occupies your thoughts will eventually flow into your words and your behavior.
Often something begins quietly within the heart, then settles into the mind, and from there the mind instructs the body how to act.
Your inner world eventually becomes your outer life.
That is why disciplining your thoughts is also disciplining your behavior. Be mindful of what your heart harbors and what your mind repeatedly consumes.
If your thoughts are filled with fear, resentment, jealousy, or bitterness, those things will eventually show up in your actions.
But if your heart is grounded in truth, joy, wisdom, and clarity, those qualities will guide your life.
Do not become so self-sacrificing that you destroy yourself in the process.
There is a difference between love and depletion.
Yes, we are called to care for others, but if you give so much of yourself that you are left empty, you will eventually have nothing left to give.
Some people will take endlessly if you allow them to. And just because you water someone does not mean they will water you.
Be a good steward of what you have… your energy, your time, your peace.
Healthy relationships nourish both people. Parasitic ones drain one for the survival of the other.
You cannot thrive in environments that constantly deplete you.
Be mindful of what voices you come into agreement with, including the ones inside your own mind.
You cannot control what others say or how they treat you, but you can control what you allow to take root within you. If someone speaks negative words over you or your life rebuke them in that very moment and also be mindful of what spirit they’re operating in.
Negative thoughts often arrive quietly:
“I’m not smart enough.”
“I’m not good enough.”
“I’m not talented enough.”
“I’m not capable.”
Do not come into agreement with those thoughts.
Practice discernment with your own thoughts as well and ask is this a helpful or harmful thought. Rebuke what is false as often as necessary.
As it is written:
“Better is open rebuke than hidden love.” — Proverbs 27:5
The world will often try to shape you, pressure you, and mold you into something that aligns with its expectations. But stand firmly in your values, your integrity, and who you want to be.
Stand on God’s word.
Do not bend to the will of others when it requires you to betray yourself.
Do not ignore your limits.
Money, status, and material success shape much of the people in this world, but these things are temporary.
You are not of this worldly system.
Scripture reminds us:
“But our citizenship is in heaven.” — Philippians 3:20
Everything here…money, possessions, luxury, status.. will one day cease to exist. Entire systems rise and fall. And WHEN they do, many people will find themselves searching for meaning, for purpose, for something that cannot be taken from them.
Do not wait until that moment.
Your value does not come from what you own, what you earn, or how the world ranks you.
Your value comes from who created you.
And from the simple fact that you exist!
Finally, be mindful of who you choose as your romantic partner, because that decisions will shape your entire life.
The person you choose will influence your habits, your mindset, your emotional well-being, your spiritual growth, what you eat, what you watch, your finances, how you speak and your direction in life.
A partner can either align with your purpose or slowly pull you away from it.
Choose someone who is equally yoked with you.
Not identical, but aligned at the core.
Your values should not be in constant conflict. What you stand for, the fruits of the spirit, should not feel negotiable in their presence.
If integrity, wisdom, and spiritual awareness are pillars in your life, they should already exist in theirs.
Love should never require you to abandon who you are.
Know yourself first. Understand your values. Stand firm in them. And that’s not to say to be intolerant of others. To truly love someone is to accept them at their core, but also to understand that acceptance does not equal alignment… you can honor who someone is while recognizing they are not meant to walk beside you. Especially when their nature conflicts with your peace, because alignment, not attachment, is what sustains a healthy connection.
And if you are reading this one day, carrying my name, my blood, or my legacy or even a close friend, supporter or follower of mine.
Know that these words were written with you in mind from a place of sincere affection and genuine regard for your soul and wellbeing. Life is a precious gift, though at times it may not feel like it.
And this communication, among others … is a piece of me for you to keep.
I love you deeply and beyond our physical bounds. And allow me to explain what I mean by that because I want you to understand that I don’t have to be near you to love you. This is the type of love that isn’t limited to presence, proximity, or vicinity.
I’m speaking of a soul-level connection deeper than the limited time spent together in the physical. A love so strong that can endure beyond circumstances such as distance, separation, or abrupt changes. Something ending in one realm doesn’t erase the kind of unconditional positive energy of love that exists within me for you.
